What ShareX does

ShareX is a free, open-source screen capture and screen recording utility for Windows. It is developed by the ShareX Team and the source code is publicly available on GitHub under an open-source license, meaning anyone can inspect, fork, or contribute to it. At its core, ShareX handles the full capture-to-share workflow in a single application. Users can capture a selected region, an individual window, a specific monitor, or the entire desktop. Scrolling capture lets users grab content that extends beyond the visible screen area, which is useful for long web pages or documents. For moving content, ShareX records the screen to video files or animated GIFs, and the recording can include the cursor and system audio. After a capture is taken, ShareX can run a configurable sequence of after-capture tasks automatically. These tasks include annotating the image with shapes, arrows, text, blur regions, or a pixelate tool; applying image effects; copying to the clipboard; saving to a local path; and uploading to one of many supported hosting services. URL shortening is built in as well. Every step in this workflow can be adjusted or reordered to match a particular use case. Beyond capture, ShareX includes a set of standalone tools accessible from its tray menu: a color picker, a screen ruler, an image editor, an OCR tool that extracts text from any area of the screen, a QR code generator and decoder, a hash check utility, and a DNS changer. These utilities make ShareX useful as a general productivity toolkit rather than a capture-only application. Hotkeys can be assigned to any capture task, so repeating the same workflow takes a single key press. ShareX is aimed at content creators, developers, support engineers, and anyone who routinely captures and shares screen content. This page links to the official standalone installer for ShareX sourced directly from github.com. Always download ShareX from its official GitHub releases page or through a link that points there to avoid modified or bundled versions.
